THE ROLE OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN ENSURING AND PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF CONVICTS

Abstract

The Institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights is one of the key human rights mechanisms in the Russian Federation. This institution is largely responsible for protecting the rights and legitimate interests of persons in penitentiary institutions. The Commissioner for Human Rights plays an important role in monitoring the observance of the rights of convicts, identifying violations and making appropriate recommendations to improve their conditions of detention.
