THE FUNCTIONAL ROLE OF SLANG AND PECULARITIES OF ITS USE (BASED ON HERRNDORF’S NOVEL «TSCHICK»)

Abstract

The present article is devoted to the research of functional features of slang and its meaning in texts of fiction style. As a result of the theoretical review the slang words used in the novel ‘Chick’ by W. Herrndorf were analysed. The article reveals that the use of slang in fiction texts contributes to establishing contact with the reader, revealing the characters' characters by means of their speech communication and analysing social realities. The author of the work comes to the conclusion that slang plays a key role in creating the image of characters, reflecting their social environment, worldview and emotional states.
