Abstract

The review examines the evolving terminology and clinical approaches related to metabolic syndrome and its more common form, cardiorenal metabolic syndrome (CRMS). CRMS highlights the complex interplay between carbohydrate and lipid metabolism disorders, obesity, hypertension, vascular dysfunction, renal impairment, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cardiovascular complications. Despite changes in diagnosis, the basic concept remains unchanged: overweight and associated metabolic disorders cause a whole cascade of comorbidities, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, and severe cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. The main recommendations include moderate but sustained weight loss through a balanced diet.
