PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

This article examines the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a complex metabolic and hormonal disorder. The primary cause of the disease is ovarian pathology, but genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors contribute to the development of specific symptoms and signs. Insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, abdominal obesity, psychological disorders, and infertility are also associated with this syndrome. These pathophysiological processes are interconnected. Hyperandrogenism, in turn, causes insulin resistance and hyperglycemia, leading to the formation of reactive oxygen species, oxidative stress, and abdominal obesity. Consequently, inflammation, reactive oxygen species production, insulin resistance, and hyperandrogenism increase.
