IDENTIFICATION OF HH4 AND HH5 FERTILITY HAPLOTYPES IN THE HOLSTEIN CATTLE POPULATION OF THE BELGOROD REGION

Abstract

The article presents the results of molecular genetic screening of 117 Holstein cattle bred in the Belgorod Region for the carriage of HH4 and HH5 fertility haplotypes. The study was performed using PCR-RFLP and allele-specific PCR methods. The frequency of the mutant M allele for HH4 was found to be 0.0085, and for HH5 — 0.0128. Two carriers of the HH4 mutation and three carriers of the HH5 mutation were identified, including one animal carrying both mutations (MW/MW). The obtained data indicate a low level of accumulation of recessive lethal mutations in the regional population, but confirm the need to maintain genetic monitoring when selecting parent pairs.
