WOMEN LAWYERS IN THE HISTORY OF THE RUSSIAN LEGAL PROFESSION

Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of the contribution of women lawyers to the history of the Russian legal profession. The authors examine the role of women in the formation and development of the institution of advocacy in Russia, starting from the period of the origin of advocacy in the late 19th century and up to the present. This work also provides a historical analysis of the difficulties faced by the first women lawyers, analyzes the reasons for the low representation of women in the profession and the prerequisites for the emergence of the first women's law firms and associations. Special attention is paid to the evolution of legislation that allowed women to officially hold the position of a lawyer, as well as the problems of gender equality in the legal community.
