Abstract

This article is an analysis of the feminist movement in South Korea in recent decades. The rapid and sharp penetration of this movement into public life is due to both objective reasons and a number of specific events and the originality of the traditional national mentality in matters of gender roles. The accumulated harsh pressure of patriarchal Congfucian attitudes towards women caused a violent response, in some cases reaching extremism. Hypercompetition, the demographic crisis, and the "traditional" family crisis were reflected in the women's rights movement, which was a reaction to active discrimination against women and affected both the economic and social life of Korean society.
