STUDYING THE FUNCTION OF THE AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM USING THE KERDO INDEX IN GIRLS WITH VISION PATHOLOGY

Abstract

Eye health and vision are important to many aspects of people's lives and health. As of 2020, about 1.02 million children aged 0-14 years are blind, which corresponds to a prevalence of 4.8 per 10,000 children, 22.16 million have moderate to severe, and 46.60 million mild visual impairment.

Young children suffering from early, severe and irreversible visual impairment may develop disorders of motor, speech, emotional, psychosocial and cognitive development, as well as a decrease in quality of life. Physical activity is an important factor in improving overall health and well-being. The autonomic nervous system plays an important role in the process of adaptation of the body.

The purpose of our study was to study the function of the autonomic nervous system using the Kerdo index in girls with vision pathology.

The study involved 139 girls aged 7 to 17 years, all were divided into three groups according to age: junior, middle and high school age. The main group included 79 blind and visually impaired girls, including 5 totally blind and 74 visually impaired, and the control group consisted of 60 peers with normal vision.

As a result of a study using the Kerdo index, we found that in girls with vision pathology, regardless of age, the activity of the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system predominates, in comparison with their peers with normal vision.
