CRIMINAL PROFILING IN MODERN LAW ENFORCEMENT: INTEGRATED ANALYSIS
Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive examination of criminal profiling as a significant interdisciplinary methodology within contemporary criminological science and law enforcement practice. The work systematically explores the theoretical foundations, historical evolution, methodological approaches, and practical applications of profiling techniques. Particular attention is given to the analysis of behavioral patterns, psychological characteristics of offenders, and the integration of modern technologies in investigative processes. The study investigates the current legal framework governing profiling activities in the Russian Federation, identifying both regulatory provisions and significant legislative gaps. Through examination of practical cases and empirical data, the article evaluates the effectiveness of profiling in criminal investigations, especially concerning serial and complex crimes. The concluding section outlines principal challenges, ethical considerations, and prospective directions for the development of profiling methodologies, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced legal regulation, technological advancement, and specialized professional training. The research argues that criminal profiling, while requiring further methodological refinement and standardized protocols, represents a valuable auxiliary instrument that can substantially improve the efficiency and precision of modern investigative procedures when properly integrated into law enforcement frameworks.
