Abstract

this research focuses on analyzing the legal nature of an expert opinion as evidence in the criminal procedure of the Russian Federation. Particular attention is paid to the regulatory framework governing the procedure for appointing and conducting an expertise, as well as the evaluation of an expert opinion within the principles of criminal proceedings. The study examines problematic aspects of the practical application of this type of evidence and its development prospects. It concludes that the expert opinion plays a pivotal role in ensuring the objectivity, legality, and fairness of the criminal process, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to procedural norms to ensure the admissibility and reliability of evidence.
