HIJACKING OF AN AIR, WATER, OR RAIL TRANSPORT VEHICLE (ARTICLE 211 OF THE CRIMINAL CODE OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION)

Abstract

The article examines the criminal-legal characteristics of the offense stipulated by Article 211 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to the unlawful seizure of air, water, or rail transport vehicles. The study analyzes the elements of the crime, the specifics of its classification, and issues in law enforcement practice. Special attention is given to distinguishing hijacking from related offenses, as well as to an analysis of international legislation. The paper presents judicial statistics and reviews real criminal case examples. Based on the conducted research, gaps and deficiencies in the current legislation are identified, and recommendations for its improvement, as well as measures for crime prevention in this category, are proposed.
