Abstract

The article reviews the data on the current achievements of transplantology in some countries. High rates of both organ donation and transplantation are observed worldwide, which has become possible due to successful reforms and initiatives carried out in countries, as well as due to improved coordination of the donation process. The need for tissues and organs in the world is constantly growing, and the supply of organs for transplantation does not meet the needs. Therefore, long-term government support is needed in countries to develop and implement successful organ donation and transplantation programs.

National programs in countries should be supported by a sophisticated information technology system that is easily accessible to all staff. The system should integrate all data needed for transplant evaluation, including organ selection, allocation, transplantation and long-term follow-up.

In order for a national program to meet the highest standards and strive for continuous quality improvement, a quality and safety assurance system covering all aspects of donation and transplantation is necessary.
